As part of its 2010 Speakers’ Programme, the Larrakeyah Branch of the National Trust is presenting an illustrated talk, The Silence of the Guns, by Norm Cramp at 5.30pm on 30 July at Burnett House. The focus of the presentation will be the military thinking in the 1900s that led to the concept of fortifications at East Point, the need for ‘Fortress Darwin’, the construction phase, the war years (1939-45), some truths and myths, the post war years (the silence of the guns), the beginning of a museum, the history of the East Point Military Museum and an overview of the Darwin Military Museum today and into the future. Also at Burnett House, mornings from 22 August to the end of the month, will be an exhibition of paintings by local artist Marnie Jay Sharp.
