For the June meeting of the Music Appreciation Group, Lorna has compiled a program of piano music. Before then, there’s a chance to hear two piano recitals at the Entertainment Centre.

Michael Kieran Harvey was the first Australian pianist to win a major international piano competition, winning the inaugural Ivo Pogorelich International Solo Piano Competition in 1993. Renowned for his performances of new music, he has especially promoted the works of Australian composers, internationally and within Australia. On 29 May, Michael Kieran Harvey will be presenting an eclectic program ranging from Liszt’s monumental Sonata in B minor to his own composition Fugues for Frank, a tribute to the work of Frank Zappa.

As part of the celebrations of The Year of Frederic Chopin, the European Union Top End presents, on 30 May, a Chopin Recital performed by Polish pianist Raphael Alexandre Luschevsky who has been hailed as one of the very best pianists of his generation. Luschevsky’s recital will be a fitting opportunity to mark the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth.
