Blocked Bid Print

A post script to the talk given in February about Passing-off: The New Zealand Wine Growers’ Association has successfully blocked a bid by French wine maker Lacheteau to register the name Kiwi Cuvée for a range of its wines sold in Australia. The main ground of opposition was that the name has a connotation which would be likely to deceive or cause confusion; in this case that the wines, if they were sold under such a name, would give the impression that their country of origin was New Zealand.
