At the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, the exhibition of works produced by fibre artists from around Australia, ReCoil, continues until 2 May. At 11am on 10 April there’s a floor talk open to the general public.

Running until 14 April is a small exhibition, Threat of Invasion, which has a display of artifacts commemorating the bombing of Darwin. On show for the first time are orders issued by Australian Army headquarters to the 43rd Battalion based in Darwin in preparation for an anticipated landing by Japanese forces. You can also see the pistols that would have been fired to warn the local population that the enemy had indeed landed.

For more than 30 years, about 40 artworks are selected each year for Exit Art which showcases the best creations of year 12 visual arts, craft and design students throughout the Territory. The best of the 2009 entrants will be on display from 2 April in the Ken Walters Gallery; the selection will include such disciplines as ceramics, photography, sculpture and, increasingly, information technology. If you go along, don’t forget to cast your vote for the public’s choice.

By the way, it appears that the number 4 bus will shortly be rerouted so that its journey takes in the MAGNT – good news for both locals and tourists. But it does rather beg the question: why wasn’t it done before now?
