This month sees the opening of stage one of CDU�s Indonesian Garden. The project, launched in 2005 as part of an Indonesian cultural week, sets out to create a cultural, educational and recreational resource for the University and the wider Australian and Indonesian communities.

The Indonesian community has been heavily involved in the garden’s creation with most of the construction work carried out by Indonesian skilled workers here in Australia. The building of the “Pendopo” alone, the statuesque centrepiece which forms the heart of the space, employed a large group of Indonesian skilled workers both in Bali and in Darwin. Indonesian craftsmen created the Garuda statue - which will form a key focal point of the garden - and the Saraswati statue.

The garden is situated next to building Orange 12 on the Casuarina campus.
