Why is there a statue of a female water bearer in the Smith Street Mall? It is a delightful figure, and symbolises the hard work of the Kalymnian Mother. It was the gift of our sister city of Kalymnos, many of whose inhabitants migrated here from this Greek island in the south eastern Aegean Sea. It was erected on 23 April 1982.opposite what was, at the time, the entrance to the Greek Consulate.
